On Thursday, May 7&8, firefighters from the N.
Wildwood fire dpt. brought their 'Safety House'
to St. Ann Regional. Pre-K through 8th grade
were shown what to do when confronted by fire.
Using an extinguisher, putting out pan fires and
safety in the kitchen were explained by dedicated
firefighters: Dominick McClain & Terri DelVicario.
Designating a 'Meeting Place' was stressed if escape
from your house is necessary. During the 'smoke' dem-
onstration, the children learned how quickly a room
fills with smoke and how difficult visibility becomes.
Within 30 seconds, a person can be overcome with smoke, so the
importance of an escape route is stressed. We were reminded of the need
for smoke detectors in every room and CO detectors on every floor. We
thank the dedicated firefighters who remind us to always call 911 if
needed.
