The Parent-Student Handbook

LIBRARY: 
    The school library is open during school hours.  Students may borrow books each week.  The library is available for projects and research during school hours. Students must pay for lost or damaged books for which they are responsible.    

LUNCH:        

Students eat lunch in the multi-purpose room. The school sponsors a hot lunch program for students in grades 1 through 8.

Student may NOT charge lunch.

Students are to sit during lunch and see that the cafeteria is left in order.  All students are to eat lunch in school and no student may leave the premises at lunch.

If a student is bringing lunch from home, he/she must have it with him/her in the morning.  When an exceptional circumstance makes it necessary to drop off a child’s lunch, please leave it on the small table at the entrance to the cafeteria.  Do not bring it to the office.  The student’s name must be on the container.

Commercially produced lunches (McDonalds, Pizza Hut, etc.) are not permitted.

MISSION STATEMENT:

St. Ann Regional school, believing each student is a child of God, challenges each to embrace the Gospel, achieve academic excellence, and make a difference in the world.

MONEY – VALUABLES:
Students should not have large sums of money in their possession.  Ordinarily, students are not to have/use expensive equipment (IPods, cellular phones, laptops, etc.) during school hours.

Cell Phone Use - Students may not use cell phones during the school day.  If a student violates this policy, he/she may lose cell phone privilege.  Classroom teachers will implement age appropriate cell phone rules for their students.  Some policies may require students to hand-in phones at the beginning of the day and retrieve them at 2:30. 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

Students PK-8 participate in physical education classes once a week.  The mandatory uniform for grades Pre-K through 8 is to be purchased through Flynn & O’Hara.  Students wear this uniform and sneakers to school on gym days.  November through April, the sweat outfit is mandatory. Please label all items.

PRAYER PARTNERS:

Students in upper grades are matched with students in lower grades as prayer partners.  Several times during the year the students meet for joint activities.  Prayer partners are not to exchange gifts on these occasions or on holidays.

PRE-SCHOOL: 

St. Ann Regional School Pre-School is open to children who are 4 years of age by September 30, 2009 or 3 years of age by September 30, 2009.  Parents have the option of having their children attend:

5 full days         $3,600.00          3 full days*       $2,800.00
5 half days        $2,800.00          3 half days*      $2,600.00
*Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays

Upon registration parents will receive additional information about pre-school.

PTA: 

St. Ann Regional School has an active PTA.  The PTA oversees a variety of fundraisers.  The proceeds of these activities contribute to the budget of the school.  The PTA also sponsors a variety of assembly programs for the students.  All parents are expected to support the activities which PTA sponsors.
 

RECORDS: 

The school maintains students’ records which include: family information, attendance, report card copies, Iowa Test Scores and Health Immunization Records.  Parents (custodial and non-custodial) may view their child’s records.  Please call the school office to make an appointment if you wish to see the records.

REGISTRATION: 

St. Ann Regional School has open registration. Students applying for Kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 30th of the upcoming school year. Priority for registration is given to active members of St. Ann and Assumption Parishes.

SODA MACHINE:
Students may use the soda machine when involved in extracurricular activities.  Otherwise, students may neither use nor have adults use it for them. 
STATIONERY: 

Stationery is available for purchase through the school office.

TELEPHONE: 

The telephone may be used by students only in cases of urgent need and with the permission of the teacher. 

                                                                                                                   

Parents are discouraged from using the school phone for personal messages to the students.
